Please be certain to mark the weight charts at your drop-off agencies for each delivery you make. We will appreciate your help in maintaining accurate records of your service! Also, please retrieve the weight charts if you are at an agency at the end of the month and mail them in to the PO Box. Dear Friends of Collier Harvest, It seems that we are not only having an early Easter this year but the warm weather is here too! I don't know about all of you but it seems like just yesterday and it was Christmas season! I'm hoping that all of you are enjoying your winter months here in paradise. Thank you for making it your priority to help feed the hungry as you enjoy this spectacular winter season. If you made it to the Northern Trust volunteer appreciation event last month I am sure you will agree that it was better than ever. Not only did we enjoy the pleasure of a record turnout of our volunteers but we also enjoyed the presentations from our community partners; Collier County Commissioner, Jim Coletta, Salvation Army Captain Alejandro Castillo and Carol Shaw from The David Lawrence Center. It is always a treat to be able to spend the evening with a group of people who dedicate themselves to the betterment of the community they live in. Thank you volunteers and especially thank you to our hosts at Northern Trust! Speaking of volunteers, our Annual National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive is creeping up on us. This event is less than two months away! As most of you know, it is a very important source of food for our program and because it's focus is on non perishable canned foods it has an even bigger impact on our program, enabling us to store about 60 % of the collection for use over the long summer months. With many residents in our area having a particularly difficult economic challenge this year we want to do everything we can to make this our biggest collection ever. How can you help? Volunteer to work the day of the event (Saturday, May 10 from 1-8 PM) or volunteer to help with any of the many pre food drive jobs available We need help on the planning committee, collecting boxes into our storage site and picking up food for the month before the drive just to name a few jobs needing to be filled. Hovland Real Estate has graciously offered us warehousing space at the corner of Pine Ridge and Vanderbilt Roads. We will also be using this location as our "ground zero" site for collection and repacking. If you want to see our program spring into real action come volunteer to help on May 10th. If you decide to come help us, I can promise you two things; you will work hard but you will come away with a really great sense of purpose and you will know you helped your community in a very meaningful way. Call Ingrid Parry 455-FOOD or Carol Harris (280-6378 or 775-0443) for more information or to sign up for a work shift on Food Drive Day! Thanks for all you do!
